Kings Re-Sign Richardson

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with forward Brad Richardson, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Richardson, 25, set new regular season career highs for games played (81), assists (16) and points (27) while skating with the Kings this past season.  The 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Belleville, Ontario, also recorded 11 goals – including a career high four game-winning goals – and 37 penalty minutes.  The Kings had a record of 10-0-1 in games when Richardson scored a goal this past season.

Richardson also skated in all six Kings post-season games in 2010, recording one goal (the game-winner in Game 3 vs. Vancouver), one assist, two points and two penalty minutes.  Additionally, he was the Kings nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

In 2008-09, Richardson was limited to just 31 regular season games with the Kings because of a foot injury.  He totaled five points (0-5=5) and 11 penalty minutes while in the line-up.

Richardson was acquired by the Kings for a second-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft on June 21, 2008.  He was originally drafted by Colorado in the fifth-round (163rd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Richardson has 32 points (11-21=32) and 48 penalty minutes in 112 career regular season games with the Kings.  His NHL totals include 248 career regular season games, 72 points (30-42=72) and 96 penalty minutes.  He’s also skated in 15 career postseason games, recording three points (2-1=3) and eight penalty minutes.

Prior to his NHL career, Richardson played junior hockey with Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League where he was named MVP of his team three times (2004-05, 2002-03, 2001-02).
